Twin Ports Intermodal Terminal Study

The Transportation and Logistics Research Center in the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Department of Business and Economics was awarded a $167,000 grant to lead a year-long study on the potential of establishing intermodal service in the Twin Ports of Duluth-Superior.  The research project included teams from the Urban Transportation Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Tioga Group, Inc. a major intermodal consulting company. 

The majority of the funding for the research was awarded through the Midwest Regional University Transportation Center (MRUTC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  The grant proposal will receive additional matching funding and support from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Interstate Planning Commission, Duluth Seaway Port Authority, private industry and the University of Wisconsin at Superior and Milwaukee.
