About the NCA Progress Report Process


UW-Superior is currently working in partnership with the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (the campus's accrediting body) on an initiative to further UW-Superior's mission as Wisconsin's public liberal arts college.  In December 2006 UW-Superior will submit a report to the NCA's Higher Learning Commission that details steps that the campus has taken or will take to further its public liberal arts mission.

The campus is currently engaged in a comprehensive review and implementation process in preparation for the submission of this report.

In April 2004 a Faculty Task Force on the Public Liberal Arts Mission recommended that UW-Superior implement five high-priority initiatives to further its mission as Wisconsin's public liberal arts college.  These initiatives are:
 

  • Community Service Learning
  • First-Year Experience
  • Global Awareness
  • Senior Experience
  • Writing across the Curriculum with Supportive Writing Center


    • The UW-Superior Faculty Senate endorsed these five recommended initiatives in September 2004.  Implementation groups are currently working on detailed implementation plans for each of the five recommended initiatives.

    In addition, in September 2004 seven NCA Progress Report Working Groups began reviewing other aspects of UW-Superior's curriculum and programming with the goal of identifying initiatives in each of these areas to further UW-Superior's public liberal arts mission.  The Working Groups delivered their recommendations to the UW-Superior Faculty Senate in May 2005
