The Criminal Justice Student Association (CJSA) is a student run organization made up of students interested in the field of criminal justice.  Joining CJSA is a great way to meet other students, develop leadership & organizational skills, and learn more about jobs and internships in the criminal justice field.

Our meetings are held in room 111 of the Rothwell Student Center,
every Tuesday at 12 noon to 12:50 p.m.

Nearly every week, representatives from local and federal law enforcement agencies, probation/parole agencies, and correctional agencies, give presentations during the meetings.

In addition to the guest speakers, many criminal justice related activities are conducted every semester.  Here are just a few examples of activities that CJSA is involved in:

  • Training exercises with the local emergency response team (SWAT team), in which we are given weapons modified to shoot paint cartridges and asked to play the role of criminals

  • Various tours of state and county correctional facilities throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin

  • CJSA members over the age of 21 are asked to help assist the Duluth Police Department by testing breathalyzers (there's a long story behind that one)

  • CJSA members are also participating in the American Criminal Justice Association's Region 6 Conference, which will be held in Big Rapids, MI

  • CJSA members participate in the American Criminal Justice Association's National Conference, which will be held in Kansas City, MO in Spring of 2008

  • Free sessions at the shooting range with trained instructors

  • Participate in community service projects, i.e. Adopt-A-Highway, Grandma's Marathon Volunteers, Outreach Program with Northwestern High School
