About the Department
The UWS Department of Chemistry offers a quality education. We are certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS) which is the governing body for chemistry in the United States as well as the largest scientific society in the world. We offer a variety of B.S. degree options depending on the student's goals and interests:
Liberal Arts Chemistry Major* - Recommended for students seeking employment immediately after graduation; students who are seeking to go on to medical, dental, pharmacy or veterinary schools; or students planning on teaching secondary school.
Professional Chemistry Major* - For students planning to continue their studies in graduate school or for those seeking employment as professional chemists immediately after graduation.
ACS Certified Major* - Recommended for students desiring the best preparation before applying to chemistry or biochemistry Ph.D. programs.
Broad Field Science Major - Recommended for students planning to teach middle to secondary school or for students with a second major.
*A degree in chemistry with a biochemistry emphasis is also available.
The Department also offers minors in Chemistry and Physics.
A chemistry major can lead to employment in many chemistry related careers, as well as provide students with the opportunity to pursue advanced degrees in graduate school, medicine, or other health professions.
