Shipwrecks and Lighthouses of Lake Superior
Discover the splendor of the
spectacular beauty along the shores of Lake Superior! Enjoy the
crisp weather in our international seaport city located at the
western tip of Lake Superior. UW-Superior is located just ten
minutes away from our sister city (the other port in our "Twin
Ports") Duluth, Minnesota.
Our experienced instructors and
staff are ready to challenge and stimulate you from arrival to
departure. Multiple field trips include two day-long adventures
that will keep you captivated.
- Raptor Migration Around Lake
Superior
Learn about the many raptors that
migrate over our "head of the lakes" area in the fall due to
our unique geographical location. Experience first-hand this
annual event as we journey to observe and count
these magnificent avians during our day-long field trip to
"Hawk Ridge." While there, simply stand in awe at the
incredible view over our mighty Lake Superior. This is a
double course.
- Shipwrecks and Lighthouses: Their
Colorful History on Lake Superior
Travel back over the years to discover which ships went down
or wrecked on Lake Superior, when and why. Relive the wrecks
and learn who perished, who lived and how they were saved.
Study the vital role lighthouses played then, and their
place in life on the lake now. Enjoy a day-long field trip
to our most famous local lighthouse at Split Rock, and
relish our beautiful fall days in the process.
