To prepare for Summer College 2007:   Titles and prices of all texts are found on the University Bookstore website.  Click on "Just Looking".  Select the term: Distance Learning.  Be sure to order text(s) ahead of time, preferably before the end of December.  Courses will be available for viewing one week prior to the start of the class. Note:  Start/End dates differ for summer courses.  Students will have the opportunity to perform a system check to optimize their machine for D2L and to review the tutorials and tech support information provided for them prior to the start of classes.  If students are enrolled in print courses, this opportunity gives them adequate time to download their course manuals and review them before the start of class. 
 


HHP 102, WELLNESS & A POSITIVE LIFESTYLE  (3 cr)

Course description
:  Basic knowledge and understanding of health and fitness which provide students with the opportunity to develop and implement a plan for reaching their optimal level of functioning: physically, emotionally, socially and mentally.  This course is student centered and promotes actual positive changes to the wellness of each student.


HHP 160, PRINCIPLES OF HEALTHFUL LIVING  (2 cr)

Description:  Principles and practices which provide the student with a cognitive base for personal, community and school health.


HHP 264, HUMAN STRUCTURE & FUNCTION (3 cr)

  Biol 316 (except students in teacher certification).
Course description
: Physiological and anatomical facts and concepts as they relate to health promotion, human performance and athletics.  Issues specifically addressed include: chemistry, cells, cellular metabolism, tissues, support and movement.

: Physiological and anatomical facts and concepts as they relate to health promotion, human performance and athletics.  Issues specifically addressed include: integration and coordination transport, absorption, and excretion.


HHP 267, INTRODUCTION TO MENTAL HEALTH AND STRESS MANAGEMENT  (3 cr)

Course description: 
The mind-body link and the impact of mental states on health.  Material to be covered includes scientific foundations for stress intervention including relaxation techniques and behavioral modification and specific applications to areas such as occupational and family stress.  The course emphasizes numerous practical and personal methodologies to improve the students’ positive dealings with the stresses in their lives.  The main goal of this course is for the student to be better able to deal with stress in their own personal life.

Course Description
: Study of physiological function as it is altered, and subsequently restored, in response to various forms of exercise and training.


HHP 366, PRINCIPLES OF NUTRITION  (3 cr)

: The elements of proper nutrition with special consideration given to the development of positive nutritional behavior.


HHP 367, HUMAN SEXUALITY (3 cr)

Course description:  Covers the biological, sociological, and psychological knowledge of human sexuality. Special emphasis will be given to the education aspects.


HHP 368, DRUGS, HEALTH, AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR  (3 cr)

Description
:  Current, accurate and documented information about drugs, their use and abuse.  Attention will be given to prevention of drug abuse  and the development of drug education programs in schools, churches, and community agencies.


HHP 469,  DISEASE:  PREVENTION & CONTROL (3 cr)

Prerequisites:
HHP 264 and 265 or BIOL 316 or consent of instructor.
Description:  Survey of chronic and infectious disease including cause or risk factors, symptoms, prevention, control and treatment.


HHP 470,  COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH  (3 cr)  
Online  Course
Description
:  A survey of health and environmental issues as they relate to the global community.  The organizations, resources and personnel involved in promotion and maintenance of the health of a community.  Also, health education theories will be examined as they relate to creating a professional health promotion plan.
