Scheduling Policy
Priority
for reserving the SCL:
Academic
program related requests receive first priority for scheduling.
This
category is defined by courses granting academic credit for degree seeking
students. Within this category multiple
requests for lab space will be prioritized using the following system:
1) SCL courses
2) Undergraduate research courses
3) Elective science courses
Faculty
should not request the SCL unless classroom activities require the use of
instructional computers. For courses
requiring only occasional computer use, course instructors should reserve the SCL
on a daily, as needed basis.
Instruction not involving the need for computer assess is restricted.
Procedure
for requesting the SCL:
Each
semester a schedule will be generated for SCL classroom and student access.
A
request deadline will be established by the SCL Scheduling coordinator. Requests will be processed on a first-come,
first-served basis after the request deadline using the above priorities to
break ties.
After
the request deadline, lab space will be assigned by the Biology and Earth
Science department secretary on a temporary day to day basis. All requests will be processed on a
first-come, first-served basis with science use receiving the first
priority. All temporary requests must
be made 24 hours prior to SCL use.
Procedure
for requesting special software or hardware:
All
requests for special software or hardware installation must be submitted to a
Software/Hardware coordinator 72 hours prior to SCL scheduled use.
It
is the responsibility of the faculty and staff instructor using the SCL to
purchase and provide reSCLtered copies of all software to be installed in the SCL.
The
administrators of the SCL are not responsible for the performance of software or
hardware. Faculty and instructors using
the SCL should verify that software and hardware function prior to classes or
class activities.
Procedure
for reporting software or hardware problems:
DO
NOT contact Academic Computing in the event of a software or hardware problem
in SCL.
If
a software or hardware problem occurs in the SCL please report the problem
immediately to a SCL software/hardware coordinator. Be prepare to provide a detailed written description of the
problem. Academic Computing and SCL software/hardware coordinators will resolve the problem as soon as possible.
