Courses I have taught include:
TED 370: Teaching Reading and Language Arts in the Elementary/
Middle School
This is the undergraduate methods courses that enables teacher
education students to understand the role of different methods of
teaching reading and language arts in the elementary and middle school.
A practicum component is required; students are supervised as they practice
methods and strategies in local schools.
TED 463/663: Developing Literacy PreK-3
For both graduate and undergraduate students, this course focuses on how literacy begins
and develops. As children learn and grow we need to support and scaffold their listening,
speaking, reading, and writing development. Strategies, materials, and settings to foster child
development across a continuum are demonstrated.
TED 464/664: Developing Literacy 4-12
For both graduate and undergraduate students, this course offers a variety of methods and
materials to support the reading and writing development of students in intermediate grades,
middle school, and high school.
TED 465/665: Using Literacy Processes in the Content Area
For graduate and undergraduate secondary teacher education, reading specialists, and some
elementary education students, this course offers a perspective on teaching in the content area.
Discussion and practical experiences related to several content areas are used as a vehicle
to understand how to make written and spoken text more available and useful for your
students.
TED 701: Introduction to Reading Difficulties
For graduate students, the content of this course focuses on the possible contributions
toward students having difficulty with reading. Formal and informal assessments of reading
are examined. Options for corrective teaching at all levels are shared and demonstrated.
TED 702: Practicum in Reading Difficulties K-12
Following TED 701 and building on knowledges and dispositions gained,
this course offers a practicum for graduate students to apply techniques
in improving reading to a small group of local students. The Reading Clinic
for TED 702 students and those children they tutor is scheduled for summers only.
