The Ed.S. degree is an action, research-based, post-graduate degree. The program graduate will possess a solid knowledge base that is grounded by current research and scholarship for one's area of specialization within the program. Acquired research and statistical methodological skills are program requirements for the awarding of this post-graduate degree. The focus of the Specialist Program is to provide educational administrators with an amalgamation of advanced theoretical concepts, specialized professional skills, and technical knowledge. The specialist degree is the terminal degree at UW-Superior that requires a minimum of 63 graduate semester credits at the master's and specialist levels.The program for the Ed.S. in Educational Administration is designed to provide career school administration professionals with:
Development of specialized professional skills for present and/or anticipated positions.
Knowledge to apply theoretical concepts which relate to the professional and ethical role of the practitioner.
Background in research and statistical methodology in order to provide utilitarian understanding of applied research for decision making.
ADMISSION
Admission ProcedureAdmission to the Specialist Program must be initiated by contacting the Dean of Faculties. Admission will be processed after all required information and application materials are on file. Students will be admitted under the policies of the UW-Superior Graduate Catalog current as of date of admission to the Ed.S. Program. Any student who applies and is admitted to the Ed.S. degree Program but fails to attend the University within one calendar year shall be required to reapply for admission.
APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO GRADUATE STUDIES Application for admission to graduate study must be initiated by submission of the following to the UW-Superior Office of
Graduate Studies:Note: Failure or delays in meeting these requirements are often the reason for delays in admission to Graduate Studies.One copy of the Ed.S. degree application form. Check or money order for the processing fee of $45 made payable to UW-Superior. Two official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate academic record sent directly by each of the institutions of higher education where such was completed. Two letters of professional recommendation from the applicant's present and/or previous supervisors. ADMISSION CATEGORIES The categories of admission to the Ed.S. in Educational Administration are:

Unconditional Admission Unconditional admission to the Ed.S. Degree Program is granted by the Educational Administration Department Graduate Faculty based upon the following criteria:
A master's degree from an accredited college or university. Submission of a current resume or vita. Two satisfactory letters of professional recommendation from present and/or previous supervisors of the applicant. A minimum of three of the following criteria MUST be achieved: Graduate cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 evaluation scale. Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.00 evaluation scale. Minimum score of 45 on the Miller's Analogy Test (MAT) OR Minimum score on the Graduate Record Examination in all three (3) areas of: Verbal Ability 480 Quantitative Ability 550 Analytical Ability 550Minimum cumulative 3.65 GPA for a minimum of nine semester UW-Superior resident credits of educational administration graduate coursework at the 800 level. The professional recommendation of at least one graduate faculty member in the Educational Administration Department. If the applicant is unknown to any of the faculty members, then satisfactory completion of a minimum of two UW-Superior resident graduate courses in educational administration (on or off campus) will be required. The applicant's portfolio (including recommendations, transcripts, resume/vita, etc.) shall provide sufficientprofessional information pertaining to one's ability regarding
- Decision-making judgment and skill.
- Leadership qualities, skill, and capacity.
- Human relation skills and responsiveness to individual diversity
- Communication skills on professional and interpersonal levels.
- Other professional qualities which the Educational Administration Graduate Faculty identify as necessary for effective leadership (examples include but may not be limited to dependability, punctuality, organization, sensitivity, and attitude).
Evidence of acceptable written and oral communication skills, as demonstrated by the applicant during the first nine (9) semester credits of educational administration graduate coursework at UW- Superior. All necessary papers and information filed with the Dean of Faculties. Approval for admission by a majority vote of the Educational Administration Graduate Faculty Note: No student shall be awarded an Ed.S degree in Educational Administration until the student has achieved unconditional
admission status and accepted into candidacy for the degree.
Conditional Admission A student who meets unconditional admission requirements: (1) master's degree, (3) resume or vita, (4) letters of recommendation, and (7) portfolio, may be admitted on a conditional basis. Conditional admission will be granted only by consensus of the Educational Administration Graduate Faculty based upon student submitted evidence of satisfactory progress toward fulfilling all requirements for unconditional admission
A student who meets all of the above conditions except a graduate cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 evaluation scale
in one's graduate degree program(s) may be admitted on probationary status provided the applicant has:Note: According to UW-Superior Graduate Studies Policy, any student who is not eligible for unconditional admission by the completion of 9 semester hours of graduate work will be denied enrollment in Graduate Studies.A minimum graduate degree program(s) cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above
- AND -Earned a cumulative 3.65 GPA for a minimum of nine semester credits of educational administration resident graduate coursework as a special adult student obtained at UW-Superior.
